Baseline

Goal: to run 5, by feel, with some laps at faster than usual pace, keeping pace for entire run under 8:00 min/mile. I’m hoping the work I’m doing in the hills will help to work in some new gears… I want to experiment with as many different ways to get to this pacing — while chipping away at the time for my 5 mile runs over time. A steadier pace, I’m assuming, will chip away at the overall time more efficiently. At this starting point I have 3 laps (4, 6, 10) under 7:00 min/mile pace — so I guess I’d like to increase the number (and length) of laps like that, too. So this is my baseline for this workout. I put some recent 5 mile runs for comparison…

5 miles         39:21         7:53 min/mile

1         .80         7:57
2         .28         7:40
3         .24         8:18
4         .20         6:46
5         .24         7:54
6         .26         6:47
7         .29         8:33

8         29 feet         27:40         (the water fountain)

9           .73         8:06
10         .27         6:52
11         .68         8:30
12         .22         7:49
13         .20         8:42
14         .26         7:22
15         .34         7:30

And for point of reference:

9/5      39:31        5.03 miles        7:51 min/mile
8/30  44:59        5.13 miles        8:46 min/mile
8/28  43:06        5.03 miles        8:33 min/mile
8/22  43:20        5.04 miles        8:31 min/mile
